Winter Months in Canada Can Be Cold; Here’s How to Make Your Place Feel a Little Warmer

winter decor

Winter months in Canada can be cold, but that doesn’t mean your room has to feel cold. Your winter décor affects how your place feels to you and any visitors. Sprucing up your décor can make your home feel much warmer without adding extra heating equipment.

When you think of warming your home’s décor, think about your favourite parts of the warmer months. Whether those thoughts elicit images of a sandy beach jutted against blue water or a lush green field covered in beautiful flowers, consider incorporating things that bring those images to mind when you decorate for winter months in Canada. Here are some tips for making your lobby, office, home or restaurant feel warmer this winter.

Use Blue and Dark Wood in your winter décor

Winter decor - coastal inspired details

Blue brings images of the vast blue skies of summer and the ocean waters lapping at the beach. It automatically brings warmth and calm to your space. Offset the beautiful blue with dark wood furnishings to add complementary tones that make the room feel even warmer. Don’t overdo the dark wood, or you risk causing your space to feel dark and cold instead of the warmth you are looking for.

Add a dark wood table with a centrepiece that brings in natural textures and light colours. Artificial flowers in white or blue provide a coastal feel to your space; you could opt for an arrangement of faux greenery instead. If you think the dining table is too much space to cover with dark wood, you might consider a breakfast nook, coffee table, or side table instead. Don’t forget to soften the area around the dark wood furnishing with artwork that adds colour and complements your colour scheme.

Mismatched Fabrics and Added Texture

Fabrics and textures help warm up your space

Warm, mismatched fabrics are the way to go if you’re going for a nautical or boho feel on your winter décor. Add natural wood, rattan, jute, or macrame to provide a texture that complements your chosen fabrics. Jute baskets are ideal storage solutions, or they make beautiful containers for faux greenery to add a hint of colour and life to the space. Regardless of the colour palette you choose, jute blends with virtually any colour and complements the mismatched fabrics of a nautical aesthetic.

If nautical isn’t your style, consider the warm colours typically associated with autumn décor. Mustard yellow, burnt orange, olive green, and rust red add a beautiful warmth to neutrally-coloured rooms. Incorporate the colours in the textiles you add to your room, such as the throws, pillows, and draperies.

Incorporate Outdoorsy Elements

Winter decor for commercial spaces

Just because you are weathering the cold winter months in Canada inside your home doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the feeling of being outdoors. Bring in greenery, plants, natural wood elements, and natural textures like sheepskin and linen to make you feel closer to nature, even while sitting in your living room. Adding materials like rattan and leather helps you add more natural texture to your space.

Cozy up the Atmosphere with Artificial Plants

When incorporating plants into your winter décor, it can be tough to keep your living plants warm. One way to keep plants warm is to insulate them by putting extra mulch around their base in the pots where they are planted. A better option might be to opt for high-quality artificial greenery for a low-maintenance option to cozy up your space.

Greenscape has a selection of indoor potted plants, artificial trees and preserved moss that could be the perfect final touch to your home or office space.

Final Thoughts

The winter months in Canada can be cold, but with some creative decorating, your home can feel warm even on the coldest days. Using warm colours, natural elements, and greenery can add the necessary warmth to your winter décor while giving you a stunning lobby, office, home or  restaurant in which to relax.
