Faux trees are showing up in more and more places—from upscale restaurants to expansive convention halls. Their rise in popularity isn't just about aesthetics; it's about practicality, longevity, and the growing demand for greener, more welcoming spaces without the limitations of real plants.
In commercial and event spaces, design choices need to do more than just look good. They need to perform. Faux trees offer an ideal solution: they bring natural beauty into built environments while being both low maintenance and long lasting. And when done right, they rival the visual impact of real ones—without the hassle.
One example of this in action is our project at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre. First designed as part of a luxe September wedding, this installation included 18 custom faux trees representing species indigenous to the province of Alberta. We created six 12-foot Mountain Ash trees, six 16-foot Weeping Willows, and six towering 20-foot Birch trees. Each was crafted with real natural trunks and full canopies of artificial foliage, set in sleek fiberglass planters to suit the elegance of the event.
What makes this project remarkable is that it didn’t end with the wedding. Because these artificial trees are built to last year-round, they now live on in the convention centre, used throughout the venue to enhance event halls and ambient meeting spaces. Their scale complements the vast ceilings and open architecture, proving that these green installations aren't just temporary decor—they're adaptable design elements that serve a lasting purpose.
From office towers to restaurants and everything in between, this type of greenery offers unique advantages that make it ideal for commercial settings:
This balance of form and function makes artificial plants especially well-suited for high-traffic areas, where regular upkeep is costly or challenging.
Another example of this approach is Flores and Pine, a reimagined restaurant in Calgary's former Bears Den. For this project, we installed three stunning faux Olive trees as part of a larger greenery scheme. Surrounded by lush faux plants, the trees now serve as key design features, adding softness and structure to the dining space.
Here, the use of faux trees helped define different zones within the restaurant while reinforcing a sense of connection to nature. In settings like these, where natural light may be limited and live plants difficult to maintain, artificial plants offer a reliable, attractive alternative.
Looking for ideas on where faux trees could elevate your next project? Here are just a few spaces where we see the biggest transformation:
In all of these environments, artificial greenery contributes to a more inviting, biophilic atmosphere—without the downsides of real plant care.
Whether your space needs a single statement tree or an immersive indoor canopy, faux trees can help you shape the mood, flow, and energy of a room. Their realistic presence brings life to a space, offering the benefits of greenery where real plants may not survive.
At Greenscape, we design and build custom artificial trees that suit the style and scale of your space. From fast turnarounds for special events to permanent installations that endure year round, our faux plants are crafted to impress and engineered to last.
